A Grand New Beginning

On the eve of 12 Rajab al-Asab 1426H, 15 August 2005, Al Da'i al-Fatemi Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS), Da'i al-Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohra community arrived at Najam Baug to perform its iftetah (inauguration ceremony).

Syedna arrived at 8:45pm and was greeted not only by hundreds of Dawoodi Bohras who were invited to witness the iftetah, but also by countless others who had lined the streets in anticipation. After his arrival, Syedna performed the iftetah of Najam Baug by formally unlocking its main entrance.

The iftetah majlis began with the recitation of Surat al-Fath, and was followed by sherbet, performed by Shahzada Ezzuddin (DM) and wadhawanu rasam, performed by Syedi Mazoon Saheb Khuzaima Bhaisaheb Qutbuddin Saheb (TUS).

The sons of Mulla Abdeally Noordin Ebrahim, builders of the newly renovated Najam Baug, then presented Najam Baug to Syedna, requesting humbly that Syedna accept their khidmat of ta'meer (reconstruction). Syedna remarked that Najam Baug was beautiful, and bestowed his du'a mubarak upon the family.

Brothers doing Araz

During their araz, Syedna sought to ascertain the roots of the five brothers' ancestry, clarifying that the brothers were great grandsons of Ebrahim Noordin, who was one of the builders of the original Najam Baug in 1886, during the time of Syedna Abdulqadir Najmuddin (AQ). Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) is the great grandson of Syedna Abdulqadir Najmuddin (AQ).

An araz was also made to Syedna that during the month of Ramadan al-Muazzam, imamat namaaz would be held daily at Najam Baug. Syedna asked whether it was possible for imamat namaaz to be prayed on all four floors simultaneously. Araz was made that preparations had been made for this to be possible.

After their araz, the brothers did qadambosi to Syedna, and presented Syedna with a safina (boat) hand-crafted from kerebah (amber).

Following this presentation, a nikah was performed by Syedna of a grandson of Mulla Abdeally Noordin Ebrahim.
